About the islands

The Daymaniyat Islands are an arpeggio of nine islands, and is a protected area located 42 kilometers off the coast of Muscat in Oman. The reserve has a rich natural heritage with rare kinds of coral reefs, and is home to a large number of sea turtles that lay their eggs and nest there, as well as being a stop for migratory birds.

All you need to know about visiting Daymaniyat Islands!

  • Daymaniyat Islands are 42 Kilometers from Muscat, which is an approximately 40 minute boat trip from Muscat.

  • The closest airport to to get to Daymaniyat Islands is Muscat International Airport. Muscat International Airport is 15 minutes from Al Mouj Marina which is the most popular departure point to Daymaniyat Islands.

    Another departure point is Seeb Port which is approximately 40 minutes from Muscat International Airport.

  • Daymaniyat Islands can only be reached by boat.

  • You can visit Daymaniyat Islands daily anytime throughout the year.

    In the summer temperatures are higher however the ocean visibility is clearer. The beaches are closed from May 1st to October 31st for nesting season. You can visit the islands for snorkeling during that time.

    From November 1st to April 31st the beaches are open to explore the islands and for camping.

  • Half day snorkeling trips are the most popular tour and camping during the season.

  • There are no permanent accommodations on Daymaniyat Islands. The beaches are open for camping from November 1st to April 31st.

    As a protected area, it is prohibited to be on the beaches from May 1st to October 31st to allow for migratory birds and turtles nesting.

    People are allowed to visit the islands for snorkeling during this time.

  • Whales Sharks season in Oman varies however we normally expect to see them on the way to the islands during the summer/ fall.

  • We do find dolphins sometimes at the islands however it cannot be guaranteed.

  • If you have a drone in the country you can use it at the islands as long as its under 250g and not within 5km of the airport. However in order to bring in a drone you will need to have permission.

  • You can expect to swim with hawksbill sea turtles, a variety of fish and other marine life including squid, sting ray, moray eels and black trip sharks. If your lucky you may even spot an octopus!

  • Yes permits are required and can be booked by your tour operator.

  • The Daymaniyat Islands are often referred to as ‘the hidden jewel of the Middle East” and “the Maldives of the Gulf” so yea we think its worth it!

  • You should wear clothes at the departure points, however once on the boat it is fine to be in your preferred swimming attire. This ranges from bikinis to fully cover attire.

  • You can bring sunscreen, a towel, and preferred snacks. Tour operators provide a light lunch & water/ juices.
